China's   cutting tools compared to the international and technical parameter analysis

The   Chinese cutting tool industry started relatively late, but has developed   rapidly. In recent years, with the rapid development of precision   manufacturing industries such as automobiles, aviation, and molds, the   industry has achieved leapfrog development. However, compared with the   international level, there is still a certain gap. Internationally,   enterprises from developed countries such as Europe, America and Japan hold a   dominant position. They have a long history of development, strong technical   strength and a rich range of product series. For instance, European and   American tool manufacturers such as Sandvik Group, IMC Group, and Kennametal   Group mainly provide customers with overall cutting solutions, and their   products have a high degree of customization.

In   terms of technological innovation, international enterprises are more active.   Almost all advanced foreign tool manufacturing enterprises have their own   research and development institutions and cutting laboratories, conducting   more in-depth and comprehensive research. For instance, some enterprises in   the United States conduct targeted research on the physical properties of   different materials. Although Chinese enterprises are constantly catching up,   they still have a high degree of dependence on foreign countries in high-end   technologies. Some key materials and components such as high-precision tool   holders and ultra-fine-grained cemented carbides still rely on imports.   However, there are also some outstanding domestic enterprises that have achieved   certain results in technological innovation, product quality and brand   building, gradually narrowing the gap with the international advanced level.

In   the international market, enterprises from Europe, America, Japan and other   regions hold a dominant position in the high-end market. At present, the   Chinese cutting tool industry is characterized by the coexistence of   traditional and high-end cutting tools. The market share of high-end cutting   tools is gradually increasing, but overall, domestic enterprises mainly win a   larger share of the mid-to-low-end market through price and service   advantages. However, in recent years, the acceptance and usage rate of   domestic cutting tools in the market have been gradually increasing.

Internationally,   the field of cutting tool materials started early, and the research and   application of high-end cutting tool materials are more mature. For instance,   in the application of super-hard materials such as cubic boron nitride (CBN)   and diamond, international enterprises are more extensive and in-depth.   Although Chinese enterprises are also constantly increasing their investment   in research and development, there is still a gap with the international   level in terms of the quality and performance stability of materials. For   instance, domestic cemented carbide cutting tools still have room for   improvement compared with their international counterparts in terms of   hardness, toughness and wear resistance.

Coating   technology can significantly enhance the performance of cutting tools.   Internationally, the development of coating technology is relatively   advanced. The application of nanoscale coatings and nanocomposite materials   is more common, which can enhance the hardness, toughness and wear resistance   of cutting tools. However, China lags relatively behind in coating   technology. Although there have been research and development breakthroughs   in some composite coating technologies, there is still a gap of about ten   years compared with the international advanced level overall.

In   terms of manufacturing processes, international enterprises adopt   high-precision grinding equipment and advanced grinding techniques, which can   enhance the manufacturing accuracy and surface quality of cutting tools.   Meanwhile, new manufacturing processes such as 3D printing technology have   also been more widely applied internationally. Chinese enterprises are also   constantly improving their manufacturing processes, but there is still room   for enhancement in terms of equipment precision and process stability.

Overall,   although there is a gap between China's cutting tool industry and that of the   international level, its development momentum is good. Domestic enterprises   need to increase investment in research and development, enhance their   technological innovation capabilities, gradually narrow the gap with the   international advanced level, and achieve the transformation from following   to keeping pace with and even leading.
